RE: Gally tank is leaking

If your tank is ABS (mine is, some are not) then ONLY ABS cement will hold as a repair. {edit} Is this the freshwater tank or the holding tank? Gray water. It is black plastic. Is that ABS or polyethylene? The last post made me think of using JB Weld that I have periodically had excellent luck with. The tank may flex a bit as it fills so maybe the eternabond that stays flexible would be better. I need to toss this around for a few days. Thanks for the ideas. Anything seems better than a dealer installing a new tank.

RE: Is it worth it?

If you can sell it quick for $400 then it is worth $150.

RE: Definition of "under inflated".

Less pressure than the GVWR sticker is under inflated IMO.

RE: Anemic Dash Heat

Check if your thermostat is stuck half open. I have seen it more than once.

RE: Camping in sub-freezing weather

I plan to add some Ultra Heat tank heaters but the pipe heaters seemed to be a bit much and quite a bit of 12v power. Instead I am adding some 120v self regulating heat tape on the exposed drain pipes. I believe this would also help with the tanks. I used some small rope to wrap around and measure and got two of the 12 footers.

RE: Vaseline on Slide Seals??

I have applied some forgetaboutit and it has been fine for four years. Seals still seem like new. Anyway don't rush out and get anything yet. There will be plenty of other stuff to keep you busy and broke.

RE: New Truck will I regret not getting a dually

You may regret if you move to a LARGE fifth wheel. Until then enjoy some camping. :)

RE: This Is Fun????????????

...., I noticed one of the valve stems leaking air. All tires aired up to 80#, this one down to 58#. Called dealer and he picked up the tire at my home and had it repaired and reinstalled it in the same day. Rubber or metal stems? You need high pressure snap in stems or metal stems.

RE: How far can you drive on a flat?

I dont understand why you would would want to put your 5ers axels under all that stress, I would put it in 4lo and drag it on the frame before I stand on the white line separating me from traffic to change a flat. People have died on the freeways doing that around here. :E

Gally tank is leaking

Gally tank has a small crack in a lower corner. Tank is exposed so access is easy. Can this be patched? Or where do I find a replacement. Sticker says Travel Star listing #15702 and it is about 30 gallons. Has anyone done a replacement or am I better at the dealer or Campingworld? Next trip is in 3 weeks :(

RE: Los Angeles to Twin Falls, Id

We go through LV and use the 318 shortcut as said above. 12 to 14 hours in a car from OC. We have found this to be the quickest. LV traffic in the morning never seems that bad. Stay in the #1 or #2 lanes. Although coming back through LV on a Sunday of a holiday weekend is a bad mistake, 6/395 would be better in that case of coming home IMO.

RE: Do I really need new rims as well?

I put 205 load D on my steel wheels rated 1820 and air them up to 65 psi. About 2000 miles so far no problems. :) If you go over 50 psi I recommend high pressure valve stems. Or metal stems. http://www.blackjacktirerepair.com/images/products/BJ600HP.jpg height=120 width=80

RE: How far can you drive on a flat?

Last Spring I drove several miles on the edge of the road to get to an area with a wide enough shoulder to change the tire on the left side. I was going maybe 5 or 10 mph. I ended up buying five new tires soon after. I would run on the steel wheels for many miles before I would ever change a tire right next to traffic.

RE: Double windows, hard to find in the US?

Since you have the emails with the confirmation on the windows I would let him know he has two options; 1) retrofit to your satisfaction and sell at the negotiated price 2) refund the deposit. If refused I would start by contacting his business licensing agency and forwarding the written documents in a complaint.

RE: Questions re: Payload vs. Tongue Weight, and WDH

If the tongue weight max is 500 pounds there is no further math needed. Yes the vehicle can tell the difference between 821 pounds focused on the hitch vs spread around and distributed through the vehicle. You can probably lift 80 pounds using both arms right? Now do that with two fingers and you will understand the difference of how the stress is distributed. Same type of focused stress when you add the WDH and your vehicle is not engineered to take that stress.

RE: Tire bombs?

I do understand that these are poor quality tires. The part I don't understand is why the manufacturer would sell a product with a known under rated "D" tire. These tires were installed by the manufacturer. They would assume all liability by selling a defective combination of components and the first law suit would wipe out any profit they made by selling the less expensive tires. I also think the manufactures attorneys would want to protect their clients interests and advise them accordingly. JMHO .....So are my tires really under rated? No the tires are not under rated. Close to the max yes, under rated no. With a ~2100 dry pin your axles at GVWR will carry about 10,000 max and the tires are rated 10,160. Most likely you are a bit under GVWR, yes? I would guess your axles are carring 8500 to 9000 pounds but you should weigh it to verify. The DURO radials seem to do OK. Read the trouble posts again and you will see bias or no designation. The radial posts seem to be good. I would keep them aired up to the 65 psi max and run them for at least a couple years. BTW all ST are rated 65mph.

RE: batteries for rv in Mexico

I would ask the boatman to charge and test your battery. Have you checked your converter and/or solar is putting out approximately 13.6 volts onto the battery terminals? Are any of the batteries boiling more than the others or warm? Otherwise I would ask the boatman for deep cycle as in trolling not starting and hope for the best with a new set. Maybe search for a walmart. Good luck. http://www.walmartmexico.com.mx/dir_wm_e.html
